The intent of this project was to increase the exterior space of the house by installing a new, two-tiered deck on the back of the house to replace a much smaller footprint. Safety was a concern with the poorly maintained existing deck. The upper deck was small and not very useful. The new upper deck opens off the kitchen allowing for indoor/outdoor flow that was missing on the original plan. The added hot tub and custom spiral staircase increased usability of the deck and accessibility of the lower deck and garden. The upper deck expansion exposes views not originally available.
